Up From the Pit: The Holy Spirit and Sexual Addiction discusses the formation of, struggle with, and recovery from sexual addiction. This book is a published case study that not only brings light to a topic often avoided, but it focuses on faith in God and deliverance from demons rather than the traditional methods of receiving professional help. The hope in this book is that it encourages both those struggling, as well as other counselors and professionals, to see the ways that Christian spirituality can be helpful in treatment regimens, and ultimately to bring more individuals closer to Christ in their healing.
Dr. Pete Johnson
Dr. Pete Johnson grew up the son of a Presbyterian pastor in Minnesota, but rejected the church and Christ for 49 years, considering himself an atheistic agnostic. In 1989, everything changed, and he chose to take up his cross and follow Jesus Christ.
Both a husband and a father, Pete lives a quiet life in rural Nebraska where he is involved in ministries with local congregations. He is also a humble and honest recovering sex addict and has found healing through 12-step language and guidance from the Holy Spirit. He views his calling to include work with the Church to help address sexual difficulties.
Involved in college-level instruction since the 1960s, Pete has educated many in the area of psychology. He has a B.A. in chemistry with a minor in math, a year of medical school, an M.A. in psychology with a specialization in learning theory, a second M.A.C.M. in Christian counseling, and a Ph.D. in psychology with a specialization in behavioral genetics. He is also certified as a Sex Addiction Treatment Provider, and is a Licensed Mental Health Professional and a Licensed minister.
In spite of Pete’s accolades and degrees, he considers the most important thing in his life to be his relationship with Jesus Christ. In recent years, Pete has felt the call on his life to tell his story, the impact of the Holy Spirit in his life and healing, and help others in the church with similar struggles. That call led to him writing his first book Up From the Pit: The Holy Spirit and Sexual Addiction.
